Black and Brown Girls Art Club - Abstract Painting Inspired by Alma Thomas with Armisey Smith

In this workshop, students will create abstract paintings inspired by Alma Thomas. Her painting

style included large abstract paintings filled with dense patterns of bright colors that almost

mimic a mosaic pattern.

Alma created Color Field paintings in which the artwork focuses on color and color theory.

Students will learn basic color theory and incorporate dense patterns using paint and stamps. At

the workshop's conclusion, students will create two paintings, one using warm colors and the

second in cool colors.
